Message from the Dean

Welcome to the College of Science & Engineering (CoSE) at San Francisco State University.

The 2023-2024 academic year starts off with significant progress on the 125,000-square-foot Science & Engineering Innovation Center, which will house the School of Engineering and Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. It will be fitted with new instructional and support spaces to serve students. We are looking forward to celebrating this major achievement in 2024.

This year, we launched our new School of the Environment. It brings together talented faculty and staff from CoSE’s Departments of Earth & Climate Sciences, and Geography & Environment with the Environmental Studies degree programs formerly in the School of Public Affairs & Civic Engagement. The move will provide students more resources and hopes to create new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our college is providing our students with many ways to put into practice what they are learning in the classroom. Students can work with faculty on a wide range of exciting research projects. Over 200 projects are highlighted in the annual CoSE Student Project Showcase. This year’s event will be Friday, May 3.

We recognize and celebrate the diversity and talent that our students bring to our college and campus. We have over 300 scholarships and internships available to our students. Check out the Student Enrichment Office, which manages many of this funded programs, including the Genentech-Scholars Program that helps students at all stages of their academic careers to prepare for the STEM workforce.

With our faculty, staff and students, we have a vibrant educational environment in the sciences and engineering that is meeting the workforce needs of the region. I invite you to explore our website and learn more about our strong educational programs and impressive accomplishments.

Sincerely,

Carmen Domingo, Ph.D.
Dean of College of Science & Engineering
